Electromagnetic AXS-Zirbel Shifter interface

The SRAM AXS was a major innovation in the drivetrain field for mountain bikes. However, we wanted to improve the ergonomics of the original control, miniaturize its appearance and reduce its weight.

We already knew the patented electromagnetic control Zirbel, so we used our. knowledge in the electronic field to study a simple interface between the component and the AXS PCB.

The result was (April 2020) the world's first directly connected AXS-Zirbel shifter, at a record weight of 23g. Everything is completely inserted inside the carbon handlebar for an extremely clean cockpit

Carbon inner cage

Original cages are often heavy and unnecessarily oversized. Aftermarket carbons are made from carbon sheets or by press molding a carbon scrim. In both cases the fibers have random trends and not according to the stress guidelines.

We have therefore carried out FEM studies on the flexures and prepared a model which will be used for the manufacture of our carbon cages.
