Custom RaceFactory™ assembly
With the aim of offering a top product, tailored to the needs and riding characteristics of the biker, RaceFactory offers its customers 4 top options in the spoke selection:
- Alpina Hyperlite SP
- Sapim CX Ray SP
- Berd UHMWPE textile spokes
- Carbon SP
The Alpina® Hyperlite spokes used for our wheel sets are expressly custom built by Alpina in Italy to RaceFactory drawings and specifications. They are to all intents and purposes custom racing products, not stock.
Not only that, the Hyperlites are available in 3 finishes and 2 types of hardening. RaceFactory chose the technically more sophisticated version with cold drawn and annealed, which better aligns the crystal lattice of the metal and increases strength and modulus.
Sapim® CX Ray spokes are well known, and also used as the first assembly on wheel sets by major bicycle manufacturers. They are a mass produced product, only available in a standard design, hot drawn.
Both are flat section aero spokes.
There is a slight difference in elastic modulus (not to be confused with breaking strength) and weight between Hyperlite and CX Ray, which slightly impact the dynamic characteristics of the wheelset.
RaceFactory wheel sets assembled with one or the other spoke have slightly different dynamic characteristics that are well known and can be determined, which our team recommends based on the biker's characteristics and needs.
With both, together with our XC Reference or XC Endurance hubs, steering precision and forgiveness in difficult situations are well recognized by experienced racers.
RaceFactory also offers Berd textile spokes in UHMWPE . They have a weight/strength ratio 12 times higher than steel, a significantly lower weight, a slightly higher breaking load. Wheels with these spokes have ideal dynamic behaviour, very stiff when needed and forgiving in extreme conditions. The wheel sets reach record weight values (1080g with 31.4mm rim and 4.2mm bead)
For the road sector we also have the brand new UD T800 aero carbon spokes available, which make it possible to achieve very low weights, for blistering acceleration, reference-level handling with excellent elasticity and pedal response.
