SWBT Series T800S MTB rims

The RaceFactory rims project stems from our know-how in composites and textile engineering combined with an accurate analysis of the stress nodes.

We drew on our engineering resources and experience in CAD design and FEA simulations to maximise the section and layering of the composite.

Therefore we didn't limit ourselves to delegate the simple manufacture of a mould to others, calling it "our project".

The composite layering of our rims is developed totally by us, optimised with the manufacturer and it is protected by exclusive RaceFactory NDA; it took lots of work in finite element FEA simulations to reach these results.

From various virtual rims refined through FEM we have chosen the top as far as mechanical characteristics and produced several prototypes. We then brought them to destruction to test their resistances, choosing the best.

Our SWBT series are very complex rims to laminate and very sophisticated; they have many more pieces and reinforcements in the stressed areas than standard rims. This is why they achieve very high resistance results, despite having a reference weight per channel and giant bead.

High TG components are used for the matrix part, along with long curing cycles.

Our rims are perfect out of the mould; by choice they are not painted. There surface is incomparably harder of stock rims. The lamination quality must be at top level, as there will be no paint to cover or mask possible defects.

We have 2 channels available, wide and extra wide:

  • SWBT 28.4 (36.2mm width, 28.2mm channel, 4.0mm bead)
  • SWBT 31.4 (39.8mm width, 31.4mm channel, 4.2mm bead)

It is very easy to make sub 280g rims with beads good for road rims and reliability that is not in line with our standards. The SWBT 28.4 weighs 314g each, while the SWBT 31.4 weighs 331g; these weights are among the lowest in the XC Marathon market with the same channel size, become a record if we consider the giant SWBT enduro 4.0 and 4.2mm beads.

The SWBT 31.4 are also available in a version with optimised carbon layering for Enduro / All-Mountain.

All our rims are now available only without holes on the channel "UST tubeless" (see dedicated section in" Technique").

SWBT moulds are distinguished by the RF logo imprinted on the rim and the flat valve seat.

The particular extra wide SWBT bead (Super Wide Bead) from 4.0 mm and over 4.2 mm for the SWBT 31.4 is very resistant (about 30-70% thicker and stronger than standard rims). Together with the carbon lay-up in the bead significantly increases the longitudinal and torsional rigidity of the rim while reducing the possibility of damage to the tire in the event of pinching.

All our channels have an asymmetrical section, with an offset of 3.0 mm to balance the wheel camber to a large extent, therefore to even out the spoke tensions between the two sides of the wheel as much as possible, enhancing riding precision.
